Flowers in the dark

A new Print – now in the shop! Title: Flowers in the Dark. Based loosely on one of my paintings from the “Looking for Trouble” show. Someone mentioned they would work well as prints – so tada! I tried mimicking the speckled grey card that the originals are painted on but the colours looked washed out in the print form compared to the paintings, so I settled for a darker background. The print measures around 21cm x 29.7cm (A4) and is priced at £12.

The bright colours on the black reminds me of fireworks and another print I used to stock – my last attempt at a jug of flowers back in 2009. Weird looking back at older prints and pictures, they sometimes feel so primitive. Do you find that? I know the older picture only dates back a couple of years but it just shows how subtly styles can develop without you really being aware of them doing so.

ANYWAY and more importantly ;) Autumn is nearly here which is making me greedy for Halloween, pumpkins and Bonfire night. Not forgetting the gallons of Gingerbread lattes I will be drinking when the time comes…

before and after

My drawings start off really scruffy and by the time I’m armed with a pen they look awful! I’ve mentioned in previous posts about how I try to be a perfectionist when it comes to doodling in sketchbooks and I find it really tricky to let my hair down, so to speak, and just draw. But it’s a really nice feeling when a picture you almost give up on  turns into something your’re really pleased with. I think what I’m trying to say is: Scruffy is good.

And now there is a new print in the shop :)

cat lady on the cards

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

I’m having a weird day today. Is anyone else feeling that? Maybe there’s a storm-a-comin’. I think it’s been a weird start to the month in truth which is probably why I’ve been so quiet on here, sorry about that! I did find out that 3 days of pure procrastination means you end up with a comfy crochet shawl – so it can’t be all bad. I’ll get some pictures of it to show you. I’m a mixture of ‘pleased as punch’ and ‘guilt ridden’ because I probably shouldn’t have spent 3 days playing about with wool…

Anyway! Even though today’s been an odd one I did mange to squeeze out a new design for a new card that is slowly making its way into the shop! Can’t say no to a cat lady!

Where We Live

A smaller version of a familiar print is now in the shop! Priced at £12, measures 8.3″ x 8.7″ (A4) it’s ready for framing. It will arrived signed on the back and wrapped up safely in a hard back envelope. I’ve missed this print and it was one of my favourites so it’s made me really happy to see it return to the shelves. The Larger version, which many of you have been asking about over the months, will return one day but I can’t say when. As soon as I have enough space and the right machines to make it :)

I’ve also released a limited edition print in blue! This has a print run of only 25 and once they’re gone they’re gone. Available here!

A sneak peek – UPDATED

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Boy oh Boy it’s getting busy busy from where I’m sat so to calm things down a little I thought I’d share a test-doodle I’ve just finished. Inspired by the Moscow State Circus who were in town last week, it’s hopefully going to go towards a project I’m part of this summer – really exciting! I’m so pleased with how the test has come out I might even make it into a print! What do you think?

UPDATED – it’s now a print available in the shop!
